The process started with a conversation with a recruiter. I then had a phone screen, which was followed by four, one-hour sessions over Google Meet. Normally these would have been on site, but: pandemic. The recruiter closed the interview process with a request for feedback and an explanation of the next steps. A couple of business days later, I had an offer.
I was very impressed with the recruiting team, who were very responsive and helpful throughout. There was never a substantial lag in communication or movement of the process. They were very on top of it!
I genuinely enjoyed all of the interviews. They were about half focused on technical topics, from coding and language experience to systems design. Those questions felt very fair. As an Engineering Manager (as opposed to an IC) candidate, the questions were appropriately high level and not-at-all brain-teasery.
The other half of the interviews were focused on teamwork, leadership, and the nature of the work at Squarespace. They were fun, inquisitive conversations, and the interviewers were very personable.
Of course, it's easy to feel positive about the process when you end up with an offer, but I felt just as positive right after the interviews. The post-offer process and paperwork were handled very quickly and efficiently as well. Squarespace has a well-oiled hiring machine.
