during the interview they asked typical behavioral questions. they asked about teamwork. you also need to know what magic selling is and how to sell a customer a macys card (tell them about the benefits instead of asking them if they want the card first). it was my first job interview. i was terrified. it was only easy because i read the reviews on glassdoor and prepared answers for the questions. i was told i got the job 5 mins after the interview. do not say you only want the job for the summer because that is surefire way to not get hired.
after you get the job you get “trained.” training = watching videos on how to do your job and filling out tons of forms. after you finish watching the videos you have to take quizzes on the videos. after you do the training you go to an orientation a different day...which requires watching more videos. all of the videos you have to watch are dated, not too helpful, and not an accurate depiction of what your job will be like...at least you get paid for it.
after that you finally start working. all the job requires you to do is fold clothes, clean the fitting room, make sure the selling floor looks presentable, put clothes from the fitting room back on the floor, tell customers where something is if they ask, etc. easier said than done. in order to put the clothes back you need to memorize where every item in your department is located and what items are on sale or not. during the weekends the amount of clothes in the fitting room is appalling.
other random bits and bobs:
make sure the second you start your first day you ask how to use the register to clock in/out and make your pin.
you get attendance points and if you lose all of them you get fired.
the dress code is all black. women can wear a. a black dress (if it's above the knee you might have to wear tights). b. trousers and a black top. c. trousers and a top that is any color with a black blazer/vest/cardigan over it.
the employee discount is 20%. you can only use the discount with a macys credit card or prepay card. you can use the discount in macys/bloomingdales and on their websites. that’s it. :)

How would you help the customer celebrate their purchase?

Applied online. I got the interview only because I was referred by someone else. At the time there was a mentally unstable woman working there. She told me that I was going to work in a dept. And she incorrectly told me the floor it was on. When I corrected her, she ripped the job offer out of my hands. Insane.
I went back just to tell the lady that hired me how crazy and inappropriate what she did was. She told me 'don't mind her' lol! They just accepted that she was crazy! LOL And I got the job back. Working for Macy's is bonkers! I quit soon after, just warning people not to bother working here if you value your sanity!

Group interview. Sit around a table wearing and everyone answers the same question. Everyone introduces themselves to the one manager in the center of the conference room. After the group interview, you move on to a one on one interview process where you speak with your floor manager, and HR or Store manager before they officially hire you as a part of the magic team.

I applied online at Macy's and was called in for an interview almost immediately. Man who interviewed me seemed a little unsure of himself (might be new) but was overall very nice.

Pretty standard questions. Had difficulty with the question about working as a team, etc.
