Entrevista
I applied for the position on their website after watching the sales consultant videos. I was pretty excited about the position and really wanted an interview.
I got a call about five days later from one of the Sales Managers asking me if I was still interested in the position. After I said yes, he had some very basic questions for me. "How did you hear about CarMax?" "Why do you want this position?" "Have you been in car sales before?" After I answered all of the questions he wanted to schedule me for an interview two days later.
When I showed up for my interview I was greeted by one of the Sales Consultants who was very friendly. I was told to wait in the waiting area and a manager would be with me very soon.
I waited for about 5 minutes and the manager came to greet me. He was very professional looking and was very polite. He had me review my application and sign some documents, and then led me to a computer where I had to fill out a simple questionnaire. It asked pretty basic questions "how many jobs have you held that are not listed on your application?" "How many of your past employers would be willing to re-hire you?" "Have you ever done illegal drugs?" After all of that I waited in the lobby again.
About ten minutes later one of the Sales Managers came to get me for a one on one interview. He asked me follow up questions on the questionnaire I just took. "What were there jobs you held, and why did you resign." It was a very short interview. He asked me to wait in the lobby again.
About ten minutes later the same manager came with one of the buyers for the first real interview. They asked more sales and customer service related questions. "Describe a time when you went above the call of duty for a position you've held." "Describe a fellow employee you didn't get along with and how you worked to improve your relationship." "Describe a time you sold something to someone who seemed disinterested." The interview took about ten minutes, and the two interviewers did give very much feed back. You could see them writing things, but as far as non-verbal ques there weren't very many. They then asked me to take a seat in the lobby again. By this point I didn't know what to think. The manager came back a few minutes later saying that I was going to have another Sales Manager and the Local General Manager interview me.
I waited about another fifteen minutes, and the two managers came out and introduced themselves. Like the first two, they were very professional and very polite. They led me back to a conference room for the second interview. They asked pretty much the same questions, but this interview felt much more laid back. Looking on it now, I think that by this point they had already planned on hiring me, they just wanted to get a sense for what I was like as a person to make the final call. It was much more laid back and a few jokes were thrown around. They then explained the training and the position, and asked if it was something I was still interested in. When I said yes they thanked me for the interview, and asked me to step out to the lobby again while they discussed the interview and that they would be with me in a few minutes.
About five minutes later one of the Sales Managers that interviewed me came to get me and we went into one of the rooms where he offered me the position and asked if I wanted to accept it. I did, and he started explaining a few things. I then had to take a drug test, and was schedule for a start date.
Overall it was a very professional and relaxed interview. Just be honest and calm and I think you'll do well. It is a very competitive process though. They took in about fifty applications before hiring me, and I was the only one they hired.

I had a disappointing experience with interview process. After submitting an online application, I was contacted by a hiring manager/recruiter who scheduled a 20-minute phone interview for a specific date and time.
Unfortunately, no one called at the agreed-upon time, and I did not receive any communication explaining the missed interview or offering to reschedule. A few days later, I received an automated rejection email.
The lack of communication and professionalism throughout the process was frustrating. If a company chooses to move forward or not move forward with a candidate, at least a basic courtesy and timely communication is expected.

Are you available for a 20 minutes phone interview next week?
About a 15-20 minute phone interview. Basic questions like past job experience, are you comfortable with customer service? If they like you, you move on to an in person interview. A scripted interview with one of the sales managers asking open ended questions on why you would be a good candidate, if you have sales experience, & that you understand it is a 100% commission position. You will then complete a sales exercise on the lot, where you complete a brief walkaround of a vehicle & present some obvious features & benefits of the vehicle. If you get passed that, you meet the General Manager where he/she will be the final decision. He asked repetitive questions the sales managers did & then asked specific questions like "Describe a time you sold a product, what was the determining factor that resulted in the customer buying that product?"
