Was asked for my compensation expectation during phone screen. Before answering, it was stated that there was “no budget.” This is a red flag, there either was some unpreparedness OR there was no compliance with California Law, that if a candidate asks, the employer must disclose. This was enforced as of January 2019. I was not selected nor was I ever clear or given what the salary range was for the position between the 3 times I was contacted to schedule every round as I kept going further in the process. I was sent the auto generated email that I was not selected, being 1 of 2 finalist. I would have appreciated that to be a call. Not very focused on candidate care experience. Also, my phone screen was done in less than 12 mins and asked 3 general questions. One of the least comprehensive phone screens I’ve ever gone through.
The rest of the interview process was great and scheduled quickly.
As a former Recruiter, should you interview with this company they cannot withhold the salary range for the position if candidates ask. This is against California Law! Do not allow them to waste your time going through the entire interview process if selected to do so. Very ironic that this unpreparedness or non-compliance occurred for an HR position. This was very disappointing and very concerning as an HR professional!
