Why should I hire you?

I find it to be both a puzzling, fallacious and antiquated notion that a STEM practitioner needs to make a "sales pitch" about themselves. If I was an effective "salesperson", that would be my chosen field of endeavor, seeing that it is far more lucrative than my area of expertise. If during an interview, I am asked about education, accomplishments, problem solving skills, consensus building and professional references, I have a tremendous amount of verifiable evidence that can be provided. However, I am not a "brand" or a "product" to be "sold". My sales pitch is my solid history of deliverables and successful projects. My approach to management, mentorship and inspiring staff members is my "brand". In sum, I have very little respect for persnickety leaders who expect me to "sell" myself. Clearly, they really don't know what their own long term strategic goals are if they are looking for a candidate to "market their brand" rather than an accomplished professional who can help them achieve the goals they have already mapped out. I'm not a salesman and never pretended to be one. Menos

If PWC needs to be more modern and creative. That's a very old outdated question. Menos

Do you know TK

I had seen reviews of CLSA here still when I was called for interview I went there and wasted one day. so here is the story they were looking for 8-10 year exp guy still they shortlisted my profile that was 15 year of experience. Now my 1st round was done by a guy who himself had less than 10 yr exp and he had no positive vibe .. usually when you go for a interview you are greeted by an interviewer and made comfortable because you may be a future employee there.. here things are different. that guy had the sign of rejecting you from 1st minute and was looked like he don't wanted to recommend you because you were already 5 years more experienced than him. so he spoke to me for 20 min about technical stuff that was usual questions and then he left and asked to wait there as he will send his manager for second round. same thing happen in 2nd round look like he also was sure to reject you, he asked my current salary ..no one in a good company ask this except HR.. technical panel never ask your current CTC and expectation ,,,,, so that shows he was thinking this guy will get more than my salary how can I let this happen. as I dont wanted to be rude or upset him I told him my salary and then he asked in the end this is a individual contributor role why you want to go for it you have 15 year exp and you can be a manager.. that was it and I came to know that they dont want to hire me. then why did they call for a face to face,..wasting my time and their time. over all I found the look and feel of the atmosphere inside the company was dull and look like people are underpaid or something . I did not find any single person wearing a smile or positive energy there. may be these guys did me a good favor by not selecting me. Menos

Agree this is place has been going from bad to worst, now a days there are so many less candidates joining that TK has ordered his team that no offer letters to be given as hard or soft copies and same will be given after candidates join. Also existing vendor staff are being offered in desperation which too are rejected by candidates. Some more people are fired almost every other month. no growth as chinese company doesnt want to grow in india anymore. Menos

Why do you want to work here, why do you want to leave your current position, what do you know about our organization.

I want to work here because I've heard nothing but wonderful things about this company. Where you're valued and treated well and still have potential to make the same if not amount as a fortune 500 company. It's new and exciting Menos

Im looking to leave Spectrum because there is not much room for advancement and you're work is not appreciated. Menos

The wifi doesn't work properly. And for every basic test I could think of, they answered that it proved all was fine but still it didn't work.

To be fair to the company, in this scenario it doesn't sound very much like the role was for you. I would totally expect a 'Senior IT Technician/Manager' to troubleshoot basic network problems and resolve them without swapping the hardware. Perhaps working in a technical networked environment is outside your current skillset. Menos

Nick, were you there to know what were my answers? It seems so, according to your certainty. I think my answers did troubleshoot basic network problems, as you said. But they wanted a specialist. In such roles, reliably and cost go above pride. You learn to put efficiency above time consuming pride when you are in charge of the whole IT. I installed hundreds of wifi AP in my careers, the answers I gave Yoti always were enough to provide really good service. At the end I said if I can't find, there's no point in wasting more time, Yoti is not a wifi provider and has more important tasks. Money matters, this role would include budget management. When I installed a wifi service for small companies, it worked for years. The next time I'll install one, I would learn for the latest standards: so much changes in 2 years. No need to be a wifi specialist for a small company, and it's easy to re-learn it when it becomes necessary, with updated literature. For your information, their solution was awful, I would never use it unless I'm bored at work and need time consuming tasks, which never exists when alone for the IT Administration of 170 colleagues. But if they like spending time on settings again and again, it's their business. Menos

At the end I said there are more important matters than a broken access point, I would just change it, with a different model and everybody could focus on their real job instead of wasting time (Don't answer that, they wanted someone as talented as themselves to manage their LAN) Menos

take this pen and write the code in BASH to read a CSV file, take the 3rd column and print it in uppercases

3 respuestas

I didn't know by heart the functions for reading CSV files and uppercase. I said in Systems Administration, we don't write code everyday, our code works for months, even years. And it's not secure to write a script from scratch, since we can't think about everything before going back to the IT Support. I usually take a good script from the internet, read all of it, adapt what needs be. Menos

'I usually take a good script from the internet' does not sound like something somebody experienced in a command language would say. This exercise is extremely basic, one I would expect to find within the first few pages of a tutorial on learning bash with zero experience needed. Perhaps you should not put a command language on your CV if you are not confident in its most basic applications. Menos

You have totally the same spirit as them. Great. Never said they were wrong. I'm pretty sure of my skill with those language as my programs were always reliable and secure and even taught them for a few years at university. I simply dont need them on a daily basis when in charge for the IT. I'd remember more easily how to secure an OS for a job interview. Menos

I answered with my post graduate education graduation date.

Yes, it was a US recruiter. Not sure why that matters -- they should certainly know the US anti-discrimination laws. Also, Whirlpool is a consumer goods company, and should realize potential candidates and potential customers are the same people. Menos

What happens at "layer 2" when you plug a laptop into the net work?

3 respuestas

Did not know I have 18 years experience in IT management. It's been too long since I was an engineer. Menos

They're asking about the OSI model. Layer 2 is the data link layer. Ethernet uses data packets called frames to ID and establish the physical (MAC or EUI) address of the laptop. More at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model#Layer_2:_data_link_layer Menos

That's a stupid question. How would knowing the answer help you do that job better? You probably learned that 10 to 15 years ago and don't remember. You don't have to remember as you can always look it up. Is this a show about knowing more than a 5th grader? Menos
