Hey Guys!
I discovered Target at a recent career fair at my school. Originally, I thought I was going to become a CPA (having minor in Accounting), but Target changed all that. I spoke with the recruiter to get some information about the position they're hiring. Right off the bat, the recruiter asked me a few behavioral questions to test my strength and experience. Luckily, I have been to many interviews so this was a piece of cake for me. I wowed her and she personally invited me to attend the information session they were going to have next week.
At first I didn't plan on going, I thought for myself, why shoot for Target when I can become a CPA at one of the big four / mid tier accounting firms. But nevertheless, I did some research on Target and decided to show up to the information session anyways. It was then that I realized how much I wanted to work for Target. I love the flexibility of the work life balance and all the benefits and perks you get along with the job. I realized then that I will not be able to be somebody's b*tch or work 60 hrs a week (typical audit associate work very hard and have to suck up to their seniors on a daily basis).
Anyways, the information really made me pick Target over my other accounting offers. Right after the information session, I asked a lot of questions that I wanted to know, such as relocation, advancement, benefits, etc... (I suggest you do the same at any info session you go to). I got all the present member contact information and sent them a thank you email afterward (You should also do the same).
My first round interview was on campus. I interviewed with an ETL and she asked me 5 behavior questions (I will list a few at the end). We really connected as my enthusiasm for Target was clearly showing. Next, I was invited to an inhouse interview where I met with a STL and a DM. Same thing, each asked me 5 behavioral questions. The very next day, I received a phone call saying they would like me on their team. It took me a week or so before I accept the offer. They will ask for a drug screening within 24 hours of the offer for the offer to be considered valid. Unfortunately, I smoke some weed a few days ago, but bought some detox crap at GNC to cleanse my system. I passed and got the job. I will be starting in July 2010.
Behavioral Questions (similar but not exact)
1. Tell me about a time when you lead a group of people in completing certain tasks or project. What was the outcome?
2. How would you handle problems between conflicting team members?
Basically all the questions they ask you have to deal with your leadership abilities and how that applies to the manager position. Make sure to have concrete examples ready. I wore a red dress shirt to my interview, maybe that helped also.
Starting pay for me is 50k.
Hope that helps!
