Applied online for a mobile engineer new grad position. I had about a year of mobile experience (iOS) and am about to graduate in two months. Got a CodeSignal online assessment, got 840, but never heard back since.

Coding Assessment, 2 rounds of technical interviews before the virtual onsite, which consisted of two more technical interviews and a past experience Q & A interview. The coding interviews were really fun; it's an actual pair programming session so it feels like you're working with the interviewer to answer the question.

Entrevista

I applied on LinkedIn and got back from the University Recruiter to set up a phone interview within the next week. The interview was a 45 minute pair programming interview on Coderpad.io in any language of your choice with a software engineer from Square, who was very helpful and supportive. Overall, it was a very fun and positive experience.

Did two online pair programming rounds, and then an onsite which had another two pair programming rounds and an experience round. They also bought me lunch while I was there and showed me around. They were very transparent about pay and about why they didn't give me an offer, saying that I was ranked low for code fluency. However I would have liked more specifics on what they meant by code fluency and what mistakes I made, since they didn't give me any.

Entrevista

A recruiter saw my resume on the Grace Hopper db and reached out. I had 3 rounds of pair programming interviews, each lasting approximately 1 hour. Each round started off with an easy question, which the interviewer then built upon, upping the difficulty with each addition. For the most part, the interviewers were helpful and gave good hints, which I really appreciated. However, the HR department could use some work. My recruiter was aware of my deadlines, and took so long to get back to me after each round that when the whole process was over, some of my deadlines had already passed. During this time, I tried to reach out and got no response from my recruiter. After the final round, I was notified by a generic email that I would not be receiving an offer. I emailed my recruiter asking for feedback and once again didn't get a response. I understand recruiters are busy, but I felt like the process was overall impersonal.

Entrevista

I met Square at an event and after talking to one recruiter he took my resume. I got an email from the recruiter asking me follow a link to do a simple coding challenge. There were two questions and I was able to complete one. 3 weeks later the recruiter invited me to a phone interview. My interviewer called from San Francisco and we solved a problem together using the coderpad.io platform. The question was fun and was a real world example of the problems they solve at Square. We run through tests and improved on the solution and added more features. My interviewer was extremely nice and helpful. He later asked if I had any questions for him and I did. I had another similar phone interview about 6 weeks later. After 2 weeks I was invited to interview with some engineers in Atlanta, Georgia. They paid for flight, food, hotel, etc. At the office, I had 2 technical interviews where I solved a problem together with an engineer (my interviewer). Square calls their technical interviews pair programming because you and your interviewer would have separate keyboards but would share a screen together and write your code together using coderpad.io. The questions were not that hard and the interviewer was always very nice and helpful. I loved these interviews as they were not harsh but smooth and realistic. After this I had lunch with I think a senior software engineer but there was another senior software engineer and a manager. It was fun talking to them and we all seemed to have a lot in common. The penultimate interview was with 2 senior engineers who asked me questions about one of my projects on my resume. The questions were very detailed as if they knew a lot about my project and the technology I used. It was very interesting and I actually underestimated this part of the interview process but I pulled through. The last interview was with one manager who asked me if I had any questions for him about Square or the Atlanta area in general. This conversation was very short so I felt less confident about the outcome. I flew back home and after a few emails back and forth between me and the recruiter, a phone call was scheduled for a workday. They called me to congratulate me and gave me the offer details. I was very happy with it and accepted it. Square's interview process is by far the best I have experienced anywhere. Just know how to use data structures, runtime complexity and you'll be fine. Also just be yourself! I wore some jean pants and long sleeved shirt with a pair of sneakers to the on site interview and I felt good about myself. It is more about what you say, how confident you are and how prepared you are.

All questions will involve you being given a situation and you have to decide the appropriate data structure and algorithm to solve it. Create appropriate objects to solve the problem. All questions were very interesting and I absolutely enjoyed the process.

Preguntas de entrevistas
  • data structures I used were graph, heaps, lists to solve their problems.

Two technical phone screens with two questions each, followed by an onsite that consisted of three technical interviews. Overall very pleasant process; interviewers were all very nice, helpful without being overbearing, great at nudging me in the right direction whenever I got stuck. Onsite pair programming interviews were surprisingly fun. Difficulty of questions ranged from easy to fairly difficult, so it seemed like a fair evaluation process to me.

Preguntas de entrevistas
  • NDA, but less algorithmic puzzles and more building up mini projects. I used arrays, tuples, and hash tables at various points.

Entrevista

Initial technical screening and 2 pair-programming interviews over the phone. The initial screening had 2 questions, both were straightforward with the second being the most involved but still manageable. The 2 phone interviews were relatively difficult but reasonable. I was able to reach solutions for the both, but for the second interview I was very nervous and didn't discuss my thoughts well.

Preguntas de entrevistas
  • Implementations of simple search and sorting, some threading questions, use of OOP.

Entrevista

Extremely unprofessional. Scheduled a first round telephone interview and the interviewer never called. I tried to get in contact with the company and my recruiter but there was no phone number for my recruiter or any publicly available phone number for the company. Ended up having to email while waiting by the phone like an idiot. Eventually get a reply saying that my interviewer had a site outage to deal with. Letting me know that the interview had to be rescheduled would have taken less than a minute. Finally get an interview scheduled and the interviewer ruled me out in the first couple of minutes after I asked for some time to think through the question. He ended up just telling me the answer every time I paused to think through something. I guess he just wanted to get the interview over with. After 10 minutes, I felt the same way. Got rejected. No problem. As far as I'm concerned, I dodged a bullet. I was asked a leetcode question which was of "Hard" difficulty.
