Applied over a month ago and recruiter finally reached out to me. Unfortunately call with recruiter was more like an interrogation. Instead of being a conversation it was a series of questions the recruiter seem to read off of and jot down notes. Recruiter seem to have no personality, you might as well have just had a computer read off the questions.

Incredibly professional and thought out. Starting with your typical recruiter screen. Following that, I had a 1-1 video call with the hiring manager. Then there were two sets of 2.5 hour video calls. Every 1/2 hour was a new team member and each of those sessions had a focus topic that was provided prior. Overall, it was very clear for next steps and move pretty quickly. Important to be prepared with the company info/background. The recruiter was available through the process and ends up negotiating at the end.

This was one of the worst interview experiences I have had. The recruiter was extremely unresponsive and I had to drive everything forward myself. I would hear back every 3rd email and they seemed annoyed that I was following up. Luckily I had multiple offers and didn't need to wait on them. This experience was jumbled and they couldn't decide what team I would be best for and couldn't provide any feedback or insights along the way either. Very disappointed in Square. I ended up taking an offer with a small start up who surprisingly seemed to have their act together better than this tenured post IPO company.

I applied online and received an email detailing an initial phone interview. I had an initial call with a recruiter who was very friendly. I learned about who id interview with next and more about the team.. I was very engaged and happy to continue on, so I thought based on the cordialness of the interviewer and our mutual open and happy demeanor.

My friend referred me scheduled a standard 30 minute intro call with recruiter. The recruiter said they would be scheduling a phone call with the hiring manager the following week. She never contacted me again. Just a poor experience and I feel bad for my friend who referred me because it made them upset how I was treated. Just a word of advice to recruitment at Square don’t make promises you will do something and then not do it. I haven’t even gotten a rejection.

Applied online, the recruiter reached out in 2 weeks. Initial 15 mins talk with the recruiter. The recruiter was friendly and helpful. The first round was a phone interview with the hiring manager. The interview was focused on my background. It was causal and friendly. The recruiter reached out for the next round. The second round was a phone interview with the engineering manager. The interview was focused on scrum and agile process. The recruiter reached out with the on-site details. On-site - full day (5 hours including lunch) I signed an NDA so I can’t provide exact questions. The focus will be on your resume, passion and cultural fit. There will be a Case Study related to a past problem. Everyone is casual and friendly. One of the nicest people to talk. I have interviewed at FANG, I haven’t come across such an awesome cultural. Everyone is passionate and believes in the company’s vision.. The lunch was good. A lot of healthy food options. They’ve a smoothie and a coffee bar. Mango Banana smoothie was good. After the interview, the recruiter gave a tour of the office. You’ll fall in love with their office. It’s beautiful. In the end, they gave a candle and a Cavier discount voucher as a thank you gift. This was a truly special gesture and won my heart. It made me feel special and was the highlight of the interview. I highly recommend Square..

Screen with recruiter. "We'd love to have you speak with the hiring manager! We'll reconnect next week to set this up". No further contact and no response to 2 inquiries. Ghosting candidates is super unprofessional and unfortunately becoming normal for recruiting teams. It makes the employee-referrer sad to work for a company that treats candidates in this manner on top of the negative impression it leaves for public consumption.

Short screen call with a recruiter, followed by another screen call with the hiring manager, then an onsite day with several team members. The entire process took about two weeks. The good: If you've interviewed with some of the bigger brands in the valley then you know that some of them have real jerks on staff. Square did not look like that at all - I interviewed with some of the nicest people you can probably find in SV and I'm happy to recommend interviewing with Square in that respect. I also have several friends who work there and had similarly good things to say. The hiring manager seemed to be junior but with a good attitude. The bad: The interview process was confused and misaligned and the recruiter took zero accountability for it. I applied for a new product role and the title was changed from product to engineer halfway through the hiring process, after the onsite interviews had already been scheduled. I actually only learned about this by accident and was not notified by the recruiter. The two roles are just vastly different. The recruiter assured me it was semantics so I gave the company the benefit of the doubt and interviewed anyway but it was a mistake. I felt uncomfortable discovering in the interviews that my concern was real and the team had little interest in my more recent work experience, and basically suffered a misunderstanding of what I was told I was interviewing for. That part was just unprofessional and probably cost me the option to interview for a different role I would actually be a good fit for. The ugly: The recruiter just didn't take any accountability for the confusion. The feedback that got from the team through the recruiter also demonstrated that nobody bothered to clear up the confusion afterwards and the confusion was pinned on me with no clarifications from the hiring manager. While the interview process was not as unpleasant as with other companies, it still ended up being just as ridiculous. I'm crossing Square off my list for future role. No thank you.

I had a 45 minutes phone interview with who was supposed to be my future manager. His questions at the beginning where what I was expecting, related to my experience and my interests. When we went to position related questions, he started stating a lot his opinions and when asking mine, he would disagree without giving me the reasons. When I explained him why I would undertake a certain strategy instead of another, he simply said; it makes sense but I DONT THINK SO. The interview was on the phone and on a speaker, I could barely hear him which made conversation super hard. Overall really bad experience
