My interview experience with Square was amazing! Although a lengthy process, I believe that it is efficient to find the right candidates and getting to know them properly. Every applicant is assigned a "recruiter" based in San Francisco, who is you main point of contact through out the whole interview experience. My process was as follows: 1. Recruiter Interview Was a <30 minute call with your allocated recruiter. General questions were asked including what you know about the role and your general working experience 2. 1.5 hour interview with 3 Square staff members I thought this was going to be a daunting interview since I was told that it will be a 1.5-2 hour interview. However, the interview was super casual and allowed the staff to get to know me properly. Each staff member spoke to me separately (30 minutes each) and asked me general questions with a practical exercise (nothing too difficult). Sometimes there will be a third interview with the "top" hiring manager in San Francisco, however I did not have to complete this step. I was offered a role 2 weeks after my 3 stage interview. Overall, the process took 1 month from applying to offer being made.

(round 1) Spoke to the recruiter for quick 30 mins ---took about a week--- (round 2) Spoke to the hiring manager (head of sales strategy) ---took 2-3 days--- (round 3) Completed a 2-hour excel/ SQL assessment ---took 1.5 week--- (round 4) Panel interview lasted 2.5 hours with 7 people on the team. Members working under different pillars including sale strategy, sales, sales analytics, GTM ---took 2 weeks, 3 emails pushing the recruiter to get a response---- The process is lengthy, which I do respect and understand with company policy and remote work challenges. The team culture seems very pleasant and respectful to prospective candidates. However, the hiring team is very unresponsive. After such a long interview process, I would think a candidate deserves more than just a system message from Smartrecuiter. Upon reading other interview feedback on Glassdoor, I don't find myself alone (I'm at least the 3rd person posting here saying that the hiring team simply ghosted the candidates after the final rounds). I understand that there is a hiring surge at Square, but this does not excuse the team from treating the candidates well.

Entrevista

First a contact call, a week later a couple of interviews, the first one in English and the second one in Spanish with someone not able to speak Spanish, the second interviewer was clearly not wanting to work that day. Email saying that someone was better than me for the position and position published again.

The recruiter I worked with was utterly unprofessional. I spent almost 2 months interviewing with Square and was told that I was one of two final candidates. After that conversation, the recruiter completely ghosted me, never giving me the professional courtesy of an email or phone call. The company touts treating people with respect, but that apparently does not include candidates. The interview process was call with recruiter, call with hiring manager, first onsite round of interviews, take home assignment, final round of onsite interviews, and then dead silence....

There was no recruiter call, only a direct call from a hiring manager, and there were no technical questions involved, mostly self-reported description of interests and background, something that a recruiter screening call should cover, so as to not waste my time or the hiring manager's time. No following feedback either. I expected more from you Square! The interviewing process at Google, though notoriously long, was much better, objective, thorough, and fair. I suggest they take notes from them.

Pretty standard interview process: 1. talk with hr 2. 1h technical interview or for mobile positions there is an option to choose a take home project. 3. Then 6 interviews (virtual on site). 2 coding sessions (continue on the project for mobile), 3 Q&A behavior sessions and 1 session with hiring manager. Read many negative reviews here about coding sessions so chose the take home project which was not difficult or tricky. Everything is straightforward and gives you a chance to be your best self. On the other hand, Q&A sessions were weird. They all have different theme but many questions were asked multiple times. Felt like interviews didn’t sync up who asks what and they just googled behavioral questions and chose questions from the first page. Moreover, everyone asked to introduce myself (6 times I repeated my intro) even though next questions were not related to my experience for most sessions. Recruiters didn’t respond when they promised. Also, one recruiter sent an email to schedule a call to give a feedback after the virtual on-site, scheduled for the next day and the call was just 3 minutes (said I didn’t perform well on one of the sessions) and that was it. Well, it could have been an email or a call same day. No need to schedule a whole meeting if you don’t know how to give a meaningful feedback. Overall, on site interviews left negative impression. Everyone in the industry conducts interviews for the whole day, seemed like Square just copied it without training their employees or preparing questions and dividing areas. It’s hard to make an unbiased decision if you don’t have a structure and clear expectations. Not to mention, all interviewer (8 people) were male that makes me question how diverse and inclusive this workspace is.

The recruiters are terrible at communication. The process is very drawn out (almost a month). If you aren't their #1 pick, they will string you along for 3-4 weeks without even letting you know they have someone else in mind. Be a little more transparent my man.

Phone screen with two engineers, followed by all-day virtual onsite, and then finally interviews with various managers to find the team that would be the best fit. The technical questions felt reasonable and the interviewers were friendly and engaging. Not sure why there are so many negative interview reviews on here.
