My interview experience with Square was amazing! Although a lengthy process, I believe that it is efficient to find the right candidates and getting to know them properly. Every applicant is assigned a "recruiter" based in San Francisco, who is you main point of contact through out the whole interview experience. My process was as follows: 1. Recruiter Interview Was a <30 minute call with your allocated recruiter. General questions were asked including what you know about the role and your general working experience 2. 1.5 hour interview with 3 Square staff members I thought this was going to be a daunting interview since I was told that it will be a 1.5-2 hour interview. However, the interview was super casual and allowed the staff to get to know me properly. Each staff member spoke to me separately (30 minutes each) and asked me general questions with a practical exercise (nothing too difficult). Sometimes there will be a third interview with the "top" hiring manager in San Francisco, however I did not have to complete this step. I was offered a role 2 weeks after my 3 stage interview. Overall, the process took 1 month from applying to offer being made.

Applied online and was contacted with a written assignment. A few days later the recruiter set up a phone interview, and it ended there... The recruiter never called me. All my follow-up emails were not answered as well. I can not believe how unprofessional a company like Square is.

The worst interview experience I have had. - First task was a written assignment (took around 1hr and needs to be submitted within 48hrs) - Second task was four 1on1 interviews (took 2 hours in total) - Received a call 2 weeks after the interview (call was rescheduled 3 times with less than 5mins notice). They offered me a junior role that was 20% less than what I indicated when I applied for the role online. Discussed whether it could be negotiated and they said they would get back to me. Recruiter told me they will be on leave for two weeks therefore a colleague would assist me. Colleague wrote back to me a few days before the original recruiter would come back from holidays. In the email she wrote "we are very much interested in moving you forward" and we scheduled a time to talk over the phone. 20mins before the agreed time, I was sent an email saying that they have a dentist appointment and that I had to wait for the original recruiter to come back from holidays. - Original recruiter came back from holidays and sent me an email that they have picked another candidate already Extremely frustrating to be lead on for nearly 2 months to be offered a junior role that I did not apply for (salary was 20% less than what I indicated right from the start) and was told they were still interested in moving me forward only to reject me after. HR/recruitment team are based in San Fran which meant that it was almost impossible to schedule any times for video/phonecalls. Our meetings were postponed/cancelled four times in total, they were only available to speak to me on my weekend and email response times took up to 1 week.

Stage 1: Video call with recruitment team in San Francisco. Stage 2: video call with 2 managers in the Melbourne office (seperately, back to back calls) Stage 3: in person interview in Melbourne office. 4 half hour interviews with different members of the team. Questions were relatively expected of an interview although some seemed to be above my level, as in, I was applying for an analyst job but was being asked about by experience as a team leader and how I felt about being a team leader. There was a skills test at the end, showing their systems and what you would flag as suspicious. Overall, the interview process was smooth, the people were friendly and seems like somewhere nice to work. Where it fell apart was after the interview. It seemed like as soon as they decided they didnt want me, I fell off the radar. When I'd asked about next steps at the interview, I was told to contact the recruitment team. However the recruiter went on holidays and her alternate contacts didn't respond to my emails. I had to chase multiple times before I received any response after she returned. It took a month from my interview before getting any response - and throughout, I'd not been given any indication of when I could expect an answer or the timescales. I was told someone more qualified had gotten the role. I asked the recruiter if I could have feedback on how I'd performed on my interview so I could improve going forwards etc. No response. So no opportunity for any learnings from it! I also wanted to know if there was opportunities to apply for future jobs as they are advertising for other roles - but I don't know now whether to apply and hope I am the most qualified candidate this time or whether they just don't want to hire me! Hopefully this doesn't come across as being bitter because I didn't get offered the job, but I felt I put a lot of time and effort into their process and would have appreciated a little more from them, even just giving timescales, replying to emails and some feedback would have appreciated.

I normally do not write reviews, however, all applicants need to be aware of what I consider fundamental flaws in their process and culture. Please look at the amount of negative experiences and judge for yourself whether you want to work for this company. The hiring employees at Square need to remember that they too are only a phone call or meeting away from themselves being job seekers. The process began with an on-line application, followed by a writing sample, followed by a two hour interview. At no time until the end of the interview process was salary discussed. Pros: A phone call to let me know that I was not selected Cons: No salary guidelines up-front--Once discussed it was low pay supplemented by stock that vests over a 4 year schedule.....except, you are taxed up-front on first 25% even though you can't sell it. If you are over 30, I would not suggest that you apply, as the average age is much lower and you will probably not be a good fit for the "culture". If you are looking for any sort of professional dress, please do not apply. One of my "interviewers" wore sweats to the interview. I realize that this is a tech company, but please have some pride in how you are presenting yourself to the general public and those who are looking at working for your company. Free food----Nice, but unless you are going to happy hours to eat your meals, it is a "perk", not a "benefit" to be stressed, along side more traditional things like health. Lack of Simple Courtesy and Professionalism---While two of the group interviews were in person, three were via teleconference. I would have just wanted a head's up that this was going to be the process, before a manager "popped on" to the television and started barking questions in a rude manner, saying that she was already late. I understand from reading the reviews that this was a possibility, however, a simple comment that this was going to happen would have been appreciated.

Submitted my resume through the website and didn’t hear back from them until a month later. A recruiter sent me an email on a Friday with questions to be answered within 48 hours. everything went smoothly and then a video interview was scheduled quickly. I followed up with an email after the interview however I did not hear back from them after 1.5 month.

Phone interview In person interview with 5 square employees I spent over 6 hours of my life total appeasing square’s interview process only to find out their salary range for the position was 25% less than what I am currently making. I asked for salary expectations during the initial phone interview and was told that could not be discussed at that time. Square recruiting needs to do a way better job assessing candidates. There is absolutely no excuse to be missing the mark that badly. This experience with Square was extremely disrespectful of my time. I had more qualifications than 3 of the 5 people who interviewed with me!

Entrevista

The interview process was pretty smooth – they were very quick about letting me know whether I'd moved on to the next step in the process each time. I wasn't given an offer, which was disappointing from an ego standpoint at the time; however, I realized later after reading online reviews of the company that I probably wasn't a good fit for them and vice versa. Probably good for all of us that I didn't wind up working there!
