First, the HR set up a phone interview which was more of a conversation and focused on the "cultural fit" - the interview was short and sweet. The second interview was with the hiring manager and that is when things got real - the manager was looking for someone who had previous experience in SaaS industry while I explicitly asked the HR in the first interview if having no experience in SaaS was a deal-breaker or not and I was told that they are open to someone new who is willing to learn. Unfortunately, after speaking with the hiring manager, that was not the case - as the hiring manager was asking very specific technical questions on how to do certain accounting treatments in SaaS situations - it seemed that the hiring manager and the HR did not have a proper conversation before I met the hiring manager. In short, I had communicated with them from the get-go that I am willing to learn coming into this new industry and HR person made it seem that was not an issue at all. I was excited. Until meeting the hiring manager, she wanted a very specific type of individual with specific experience.
