There was a group interview setup. It was designed to determine both knowledge and company fit. There were both management and peers in the group for the entire interview. There was a leader for the group, however, any participant was allow to ask questions. Then I was allow to ask questions either to the group as a whole or directly to a specific individual in the group.
This interview was setup through a staffing agency. The agency was contracted by this company to hire for both a Controller position and a Client Service Bookkeeper. The company thought I was coming to interview for the Bookkeeper position and I was expecting to interview for the Controller position.
Since I was already there the decision was to interview me for both positions so they could see if I met their qualifications for the Controller position. It was determined that I was way over qualified for the Bookkeeping position. Although I was qualified for the Controller position with my knowledge and experience, they had an absolute need for someone with a CPA certification which I do not have. Therefore, I was not offered either position.
