      Entrevista

I saw FactSet were recruiting via GradTouch recruitment agency. I clicked on the link and was taken through to an online application form. It wanted to know simple stuff - why a consultant role, why FactSet, what skills you beileve consultants have. Within a couple of days I got an email inviting me to round 1 of their assessment centre. I was able to attend and confirmed attendance right away. Ahead of my interview I received a situational judgement test - SJT. This questionnaire had A B C multiple choice options and for each task you needed to rank the answers from most sensible to least sensible. You must send back this form before interview. E.g. one question I recall was about how you would go forward if you were on a project with colleagues and you were struggling to complete and test the solution. Would you keep quiet and do your best, Talk to your manager or talk to colleagues in another team for help The interview day was pretty easy going. I had a one to one interview prior to the 3 tests. Here a lady went through my CV with me. She initially paid focus to my most recent employment and what I did there. She asked about the 2 university modules I enjoyed the most. Whether I did a dissertation and what was it about. The questions then moved onto the FactSet role. What do you think one of our consultants does? She was nice enough to at this point volunteer that Bloomberg's product offering is one size fits all whereas FactSet' is customised to the user. Had she have asked me the difference between the two without that tip I would have been screwed because I did not know that tip :-) Who are some of their competitors. She wanted to know what sets FactSet apart from their competitors - that was a little tricky in my opinion because recent graduates don't have exposure to these companies as we do say McDonalds KFC. She stung me at the point where she asked what is the difference between investment banking and investment management. I was not that clear in my mind about the two.. Also, with "Give me an example of some of the users of the FactSet platform and some examples of the exact information they would want from the system" The interview was now over and I was asked if I had any questions. Here she took me through to an office booth where at that time 2 other candidates were in there. She set a timer and left me to do the tests. You can use the 90 minutes how you like. I was rusty on Excel so I put this first as I felt I could catch up on everything else. Excel test is very generic. I would just say to you to know your way round it. E.g. how to make some text bold. How to change date format from 14/05/2013 to 14 May 2013, freeze panes The Sum Function, VLookup function, STDDEV If you came from a computer using background you're laughing else literally just go and do some on-line tutorials. The Finance test was not too technical at all. I remember a line graph of the performance of a stock over the last few years. When did the stock dip beneath 750? What month did it perform the best..... Know what the FTSE, CAC, DAX etc are. Not at any depth at this point as that's unnecessary but I remember one question only being answerable if you knew the CAC is French. Maths Test. Reminded me of simultaneous equation questions from GCSE (for non UK readers it's our Maths test at 16yo). Again if did Finance, Comp Sci, Engineering - anything Mathy at uni - you're laughing. Else brush up with a GCSE textbook ahead of test. What is 10% of 250? x(x+3) = 28 Find X She came to pick me up when I was shy of finishing the Maths and Finance tests. Again it doesn't take the whole 90 minutes, I reckon if all these kinds of things are on your fingertips. She said not worry as they look at your general performance. She then escorted me to the main reception and said they would be in touch within 3 days. That was Tuesday One thing I should say is the office had the vibrance of a graveyard. None of the other employees smiled at us or said anything even at one another. The layout was in X shaped booths with a consultant in each quadrant. The walls in the booths were high so you'd probably have to get up to be seen/heard by your colleagues. I heard back this morning (Friday) that I had been unsuccessful and would not be going any further. You are able to ask for feedback though so I did. It basically was in line with what I thought. Unfinished tests, not enough enthusiasm shown about technical aspects in the role - coding, SQL. Lack of clarity on financial lingo. Nice day trip I guess :-) and good luck to you!

      Pregunta 1

My most challenging question was when I was asked about the difference between Investment Banking and Investment Management and what different needs they would have from their FactSet Consultant Also, when I was asked about what technical skills I had. I had thought these were only relevant in the software engineer role though my interviewer did imply at me that they are necessary here too!

Straightforward. You begin with a telephone interview, followed by a group interview with you work on a group project and share a talent/skill you possess. If successful, you will then go through several rounds of interview with hiring manager and other senior stakeholders.

      Entrevista

There was an initial virtual interview with HR and then an interview the the manager from the US. HR lady was friendly and was fast to respond to emails. The manager didn’t seem experienced in interviewing, he said so himself and went for someone that didn’t require onboarding training. He said he doesn’t expect knowledge on equity when being quizzed on it but yet the reason for not getting the role was lack of knowledge on it. Was not pleased with this misleading behaviour. The decision felt rushed as they only gave a reply once I emailed so felt like they already had the candidate chosen.
