Candidato de entrevista anónimo en Bexhill, England
Me postulé en línea. Acudí a una entrevista en Boots (Bexhill, England) en sept 2016
The interview process itself was quite standard. Following my application I was invited to take their online tests (Situational Awareness, Maths and Personality), which I did speedily. I was soon after invited to an interview, or as they call it, an 'in-store leadership interview/assessment.' There were a variety of slots available for the interview, so I was able to choose one which meant that I did not need to take time of work to attend, which was very useful. I arrived at the store which the recruitment team had sent me to, to find that this was in fact, I had been sent to the wrong store (there are two Boots stores in our town). Apparently this had happened to all of the prior candidates; so I felt that it was quite lax that the recruitment team had not rung or e-mailed other candidates to let them know that the e-mail was incorrect. The store rang ahead to let the interviewer know that I would be on my way shortly, but that I would be late because of this - luckily I had been ten minutes early to my interview, so I would not be too far past the time. I called for a taxi and stood at the door to wait (it was raining outside), and after five minutes one of the women who worked at the store offered to call me a taxi or give me a lift, which was very kind of her. I arrived at the second Boots store and found someone to let my interviewer know that I had arrived, and was told to sit in the waiting area at the back of the store. I was expecting to be seen quite sharply, considering that I was already late, but I was left sitting there for a good five or ten minutes, which I spent sorting out the shelf in front of me and looking around at the work going on around the shop floor. Eventually my interviewer appeared and showed me into the office through the back for my interview. He was a lovely man who was very enthusiastic about his job, staff and the store he ran, which I found very positive and enjoyable to listen to. In fact, I very much enjoyed the interview itself, and loved learning more about what goes on 'behind the scenes' at the store. I had about ten or so questions which I wanted to ask, and he was enthusiastic and patient as he answered them. The interview lasted between 45 mins and 1hr, and I felt that it went quite well. As requested I had brought along my passport and evidence of my NI number, which were photocopied before the end of the session. I asked when we would hear back, and I was told that they would (probably) select someone later in the day as they only had one further interview to complete, that afternoon; I was also told that we would hear back either way. Overall, the selection process and interview were relatively smooth, and quite enjoyable from beginning to end. However, three weeks after the interview I had not heard back either way, so I e-mailed the recruitment center to ask if the post had been filled. It is now over a month later and I have still not been contacted, and the recruitment center has also not responded to my e-mail. I think this is very poor, as firstly it is basic politeness to let a candidate know either way, especially when you have told them that they will be told, and secondly I believe it is really important to get feedback on good or bad interviews as you may learn things which you can improve upon for next time (particularly if you do badly!)
- Most questions were quite standard - heavily focused on leadership and providing exemplars of how you have responded to past situations.

The Store manager interviewed using a question sheet, the whole thing took an hour and a half and there was lots of chatting. The staff were all nice and friendly and welcoming into the store. Although I didn't manage to get the vacancy I applied for they did phone me to offer me another job.
- Explain a time you've helped boost sales or reach targets within your company

Very straightforward and scripted, there was no freedom for the interviewer to have a personal approach, was more like a score sheet and had to stop in every question to write down my responses.
- Questions were related to my previous customer experience and staff management

Initially looked great. Interview sounded like I would have plenty of opportunities and development/training. Then they started to mess up. I was told my starting date. Then when I got there, they told me they weren't ready for me, and said I had to have signed my contract through the post. I wasn't allowed to step on the shop floor without completing around 8 hours of training in front of a computer. It only took 8 hours because the store manager demanded that I complete the fire training about 7 times, and some of the other training several times as the system was not working properly and she wanted "to be sure".
- Had to write a written response to how I would respond to certain detailed situations, such as low morale in branch. Made the job sound interesting and challenging. The job however was not in the slightest bit related to anything that happened in the interview process.

Online assessment which took around 30 minutes, some could be trick questions. You then receive and email to see if you have passed the assessment. Face to face interview with higher management. Usual questions, why work for Boots? why do you want to leave your current job? Why should we employ you? Paper exercise after interview. They give you an exercise where you put yourself in role working at Boots, and they give you several problems in which you have to solve, and explain why you have solved them that way. Then you receive and email if successful or not.
