Entrevista

Spoke to a recruitment person no real interview nice and casual chat about the role and the company. Sent a test which can be written in whatever language you wish. Fairly simple piece of software using API calls took around 3 days to do the lot as well as cleaning all the code up. Once sent off got an email saying i was accepted to an assessment day. The assessment day included a tour around the offices (Very smart i may add). Then a standard interview where to developers asked normal interview questions. Then another interview which involved talking through the test and then answering some questions. Had a phone call a week later saying i had not got the job due to confidence in the technical questions. Which i believe is a little unfair as a graduate why would you be overly confident when talking to people who have a lot more experience. I came away confident from the day however it wasn't to be but i do think they believe you should know a lot more about software than a university student knows. I probably in total spent 5-6 days on the whole process and put this before university work. After reading another reply about the same process and interview it seems i was just put with the wrong interviewees and got asked some questions which did trip me up. Maybe if the same people interviewed all the candidates this would give it more of balanced view. I would have said a positive experience however after reading a review on how someone else interview went and they got offered the job it was pretty unfair

Me postulé a través de una facultad o universidad. El proceso tomó 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Booking.com (Milán) en Oct 2017

The process is consisted of 4 steps. 1. Hackerrank coding challenge which is about 70 min long 2. Graduate Recruter phone call - where they explain you about the further steps and ask you about your background and experiences. 3. Tecnical phone interview with 2 Booking.com engineers - You are having hackerrank link where they give you 2 coding challenges and where you are coding your solution. It is not important your solution to be 100% sintactialy correct since they dont run it. They are checking to see how are you approaching the problem 4. On-site interview in Amsterdam I reached the tecnical phone interview where i didnt do very well so I stopped at that step.

There was 3 stages. First online test on hackerrank, 4 tasks, 75 minutes. It was rather hard for the time given, I can't imagine anyone finishing everything on time in C or Java. I didn't solve the last problem, in other two I had some tests that failed but I passed to the next round. In the next round there was hackerrank codepair interview, 2 tasks, ~45 min. Interviewers were really helpful, nice, didn't care about typos, gave me tips and looked at how I respond to them. I passed this one, the last round is on-site interview. Its 3 hours of interviews, first one - technical, rather easy, everyone is nice and helpful. Second one - systems design, they mainly look at how much are you willing to learn, ask, and if you put your heart into solving the problem. Third one - they want to see if you fit to the company; it is the hardest. It is one hour long and even though interviewer is really nice he managed to screened me for all my knowledge, attitude, if I am willing to share my knowledge, if I'm humble... the interviewer found all my weaknesses in one hour! All in all hard but fun.

I've done all the stages, but at the end the last stage didn't went well, in particular the stages are: Stage 1: An Online Coding Challenge Stage 2: A Recruiter Phone Interview Stage 3: A Technical Phone Interview Stage 4: Face-to-Face interview onsite in Amsterdam (they pay your flight & hotel). STAGE 1: I was provided a link to Hacker Rank, had 1 week to attend the test, had 75 minutes to solve 4 problems. Be sure to get to know how the platform works. Practice Algorithms and Data Structures problems with difficulty from EASY to MEDIUM. STAGE 2: 20 minutes with a recruiter, routine questions about my motivation, what I know about the company and so on. The most easy parts of the interview process, but prepare and get to know as much as possibile about the company. STAGE 3: Interview over the phone with 2 Software Developers with a shared code editor, had 1 hour of time. I was provided 2 questions. Practice to think aloud and reason about time and space complexity before writing the code. The final code should not necessary compile, but you should explain the reasoning and provide a skeleton code. STAGE 4: I went in Amsterdam (3 days). Had an interview of about 4 hours and 30 minutes. Interviewed with 5 different people. There were 3 interviews. Step 1: a technical interview (write code on paper). Step 2: a technical interview (system design). Step 3: commercial awareness. PROS: - They provide you all the information, what you need to know, where to practice, what you will be asked about. - 3 days paid trip in Amsterdam CONS: - I highly doub the interview process (especially the initial screening), I know lot of talented people, researchers, university professors that may not pass the initial screening stages without some early long preparation on speed, algorithms and data structures, language specific libraries.

Preguntas de entrevistas
  • Classical questions that you can find on Hacker Rank or other platforms (easy to medium), data structures (heaps, hash tables, binary tree, trie, ...), algorithms (sliding window, sorting, ...). I would recommend to go to booking.com, look at all the features the website have, try to reverse engineer. All the questions I was asked were related to the booking.com website services, both algorithms and system design.

I applied through LinkedIn. They sent me a link to do HackerRank within a week. The test contained 4 programming questions that you have to solve in only 75 minutes. I found it completely impossible to solve these questions in such a short time, I didn't have time to finish more than 2 questions. I think the only thing they can judge is how fast and good you are at solving these type of tests, and not how good you will be at work... As expected, two days after taking the test I got an email saying that they are unable to proceed with my application.
