GM explained that ASM role is more of a GM-In-Training role. You're expected to be able to do what a GM do in 6 months. I came from a small specialty $400K store. According to the GM that pretty much disqualified me from the ASM role. Pretty much they want someone with exp in management of million dollar store. She then extended the offer of part time sales associate to me... which I kindly appreciated. Her verbal and physical cues also told me that she ready to end this interview.
Being a well rounded candidate with a focus in fashion pretty much means nothing if I dont have 5+ years of experience for that particular role from a high volume store. I am unsure if any young professionals can actually attain that sort of exp if we are never given the opportunity in the first place. It almost as though 4 yrs of education and a college degree equate to nothing.
It was lovely to see a beautiful run by women. One of the few reason why I applied to Athleta.
When interviewing they asked me my coaching style, and how I would address an underperforming employee. Also what I would do in a difficult situation. Although I did not get the job, it helped me feel better in a interview process

I had an in person interview with the store manager, and then a second video interview with a colleague of his (i think this was because they didn’t have a district manager at the time). It went really well and I enjoyed the conversations from both interviews! They ended up going with an alternative candidate, but communicated clearly & that’s all you can really ask for when job searching.

This was for their Customer Experience ASM — they asked about my leadership style & how I like to coach customer service.

They weren't really selling the job to me, it seems like no one stays here long term and no one is satisfied with the company or experience. I have never been in an interview like this before, why try to hire people if you aren't willing to try to make it sound like a good opportunity?
