I had a phone screening interview with a person (didn’t say if he was the hiring manager) from AWS Solution Lab. He asked me “tell me about yourself, the work that you do”. I tried to be brief as I thought this was a 20 minute conversation, so I answered the questions in two minutes. Then he started to bombard me with one technical questions after another for the next 58 minutes. Quite a few of them I didn’t know, There were quite a few awkward moments. I felt like I was being examined by a college professor and I was a student. ( I am an experienced project lead and have a successful long career with a wide variety of technical expertises.) By the end of the interview, I knew I wouldn’t be working for this person, or this group, if this was how they screen candidates. Any college graduate who studies these types of questions ahead of time would be able to pass this phone interview, but that wouldn’t make them a good data scientist. What made me successful, what made me unique, that is what I expected AWS to look for in a candidate. I have had interviews with Microsoft, Deloitte, and others, and I have to say that they were all very nice and friendly, unlike this person from AWS. This was the worst interview experience I have had.
